So, Hostess has filed for Bankruptcy protection. I'm sure some people feel that the news is tragic, but I sort of see it as a good sign: maybe Americans have stopped buying all that shit.
I have never been a fan of Hostess products. There is something about that cream in the center that draws most people in that make me want to gag. The Twinkie, Ding Dongs, Snowballs, etc. do absolutely nothing for me. In fact, they hold zero temptation and therefore I don't think I have ever bought their products. I'm also thinking that my kids may have no idea what a Ding Dong or Twinkie even is (similar to how they have no idea what an eight track is either).
The idea that Hostess Twinkies are a part of the American culture is what made me stop in my tracks a bit. Really? Is it just me or is that a sad revelation? What are we doing to our families? To our children? To our health? Who hasn't heard the news about the obesity epidemic in this country...1 in 3 adults are obese. 70% of Americans are considered overweight. Diabetes on the rise. What are the numbers going to look like when our children become adults and all they have learned to do is grab convenience, high fat, and full of preservatives food?
Bye, Hostess.
