I love Thanksgiving. Unlike Halloween, there isn't much to not like about a holiday that focuses primarily on FOOD. Oh, and yeah some pilgrims and Native Americans and colonial times and the Mayflower and all that history goodness. But, FOOD. History and Food. By God, I think I have found my favorite holiday.
THANKSGIVING
We spent Thanksgiving at my brother and sister-in-law's house four doors down. Because I don't cook on Thanksgiving I made a Thanksgiving meal a couple of weeks ago: roasting the turkey, making my mom's (with my own special touches) amazingly delicious wild rice stuffing (my God, it is so good!), and mashed sweet potatoes. All that was missing was a pumpkin pie, which I could have done but honestly forgot to make...and the whole pie that my sister-in-law gave us was long gone! ;)
While Thanksgiving usually sets off the rush and stress of the holidays, I found it to be a relaxing welcome to the upcoming winter holidays. My house was already decorated, tree up, lights up, and (shhhh) all my fall decorations put away (oh, shoot me). Not only did the house resemble Christmas but I also had all my shopping complete and some wrapping done too. I am not one of those foolish people who get up at the ass-crack of dawn to fight crowds and traffic for a measly sale. (I shopped smart ahead of time and think I did pretty well, staying well within budget and using only cash, thankyouverymuch.)
(I take so many of Jennifer because at this point she is still a willing participant. The boys, well, they aren't always eager when they see me coming with my camera!)
