Friendship
I had this post in my head all day and why I decided to write it after my book club meeting tonight, I will never know. And, because of that fact, I will not be able to give it the due respect I had in my mind this morning.
What would one do without friends in their life? I can't imagine. I have always been blessed with the friends that I have in my circle. And my circle is large. As I look at possible changes in the near future, I realize that it won't really matter when it comes to friendships made. These are people that are kind and loving and important to me. Whether I live down the street or across the country, these people will always have a special place in my heart.
As a young girl I have made several friendships that I still have today. Friends that are incredibly important to me some thirty five plus years later. And with the exception of poor Marjorie in the seventh grade that I told I couldn't be friends with her anymore, I have not really listened to my mother and her opinions about my friends since...
What has really struck me lately is the compassion I have felt since Larry has left. The people reaching out to me and offering me help and just simply being there to listen to me when I claim loneliness and sadness that my husband is in another state in another time zone. These are caring, loving, and wonderful people I have surrounded myself with.
And I feel blessed. And thankful. And lucky. (Again and again...and again! Sorry, couldn't resist girls!!! LOL!)
My friends are there. Even the ones I don't necessarily talk to on a regular basis, I know are there for me. An unspoken truth.
Today is one of my oldest friends...(and I can say that because we have known each other since kindergarten and since we are the same age, I can say oldest!)...who is also Harrison's godmother...birthday!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREA! I have been thinking about you a lot and especially today and hope that you have had a wonderful, ahem, forty-something birthday. (Hard to believe that we once played dolls together and walked the halls of our junior/senior high school together worried about lockers, boys, and drugs...)
For Thanksgiving I was invited to five different friends houses to celebrate the holiday, knowing that I would be alone. So sweet! So kind! So thoughtful.
Speaking of friendship...I was able to pawn, I mean give out, ALL my Amish Friendship Bread starters tonight! Yeah! Thank you girls so much! (It killed me to throw some of my starters away!)
Lastly, I read somewhere this idea and thought it was a good one and decided to put it out there on my blog...I'd like to read all the "five star"/best book from my friends...and, I include all you faceless stalkers friends too so feel free to tell me your favorite/best/five star book because I'm going to make a list and plan to read them...email me if you don't want to leave a comment.
Thank you to my friends...old and new...near and far...you know who you are. I appreciate your warmth and kindness, your love and compassion. You make me laugh and cry. You make me want to be a better person. You amaze me.
Without you, I would not be who I am today.

~Come over, we'll do my laundry & dishes & it will be extraordinary. LOL!
As for books, one of my all-time favorite, 5 star books is The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans. A five star from my childhood is Harriet The Spy, I still love it. :o)
