From My Favorite Place To Mink Coats

It is no surprise that the dentist office is not my most favorite place.
I'm sure my dentist is a very nice man.
He seems nice enough.
But when I hear shit like, "hand me the big needle and syringe" it kinda makes me want to hit him.
I had issues with my crown last week or I probably wouldn't have found myself sitting in his damn chair.
And since I was there I figured why not make some cleaning appointments.
And because I'm such a great mom, I let the kids all go first.
And casually asked them the pain level of the cleaning.
I know, I know, I'm about as retarded as they come.
I don't have the fear that I once had, but let's just say I would rather go and eat ice cream or something, then go to the dentist...
...which that line of thinking has lead me to the fucking dentist in the first place, but whatever, let's not dwell.
The kids have all come back with excellent reports, no cavities x 3.
That record dies with me, I'm sure.
I go this morning for my cleaning and if you don't see an update soon, start looking first at my happily smiling little dentist.
Josh is the only one up for braces but the dentist said that it will be at least another year before we have to put them on him since he still has a fair amount of baby teeth in there.
So, we are looking at somewhere around the age of 13 or so, when he apparently will be growing the fastest.
I made an appointment with the orthodontist, per the dentist request, (I know, I am a rule follower) just to make sure that that is the plan.

I kinda had the wind taken out of my sails yesterday.
There is much going on in my head right now.
My shoulders feel slumped.
Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and baby, you better be fucking ready.
I'm not so sure I was ready, but here we are anyway.
Bittersweet.
Frustrating.
Scary as all shit.
Questions with no answers right now.

Worried about the fires in southern California.
Tried calling mom for hours and couldn't reach her.
Did talk to my dear friend Darcy and she has been evacuated out of her home.
I am seriously praying for her and others like her who are in jeopardy of losing their homes.
I did finally talk to my mother.
Who was uncertain what to pack with her because they have been told evacuation is not mandatory at this time.
I told her to grab whatever pictures she has (I own most of them now), the heirloom jewelry, and important paperwork.
She said she put her floor-length mink coat in her trunk.
Sometimes I scratch my head and wonder where I came from.
"Your mink coat mom?  Why?"
Of course I know the answer to that question.
She was also somewhat concerned about her car melting too.
"Mom, please tell me you aren't concerned with the fucking car, right?  You just grab a few things, stuff them in your pockets, and head to the beach."
Do I really need to remind her how more important LIFE is compared to the dozens of antiques, mink coat, and my dad's last car?

Saying prayers today that...1.  the dentist won't need some big ass needle this morning.  2.  that those in my old stomping grounds will remain safe and they will see an end to the high winds causing this fire to roll crazily along at lightening speeds.  3.  that my mom won't have to make a decision on whether to save herself or save her mink coat.  4.  God knows what he is doing and at some point I will be privy to that information.

The dentist...not my favorite either. I hope your cleaning went well & yea to the kids for no cavities!! We don't see that often here either, lol.

Ummm, your windless sails...hoping all is ok & saying a prayer that whatever it is turns out well in the end. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

The CA fires...hoping your friends & mom are all safe & the wins die down quickly too. You mom with themink coat & worried about her car melting-maybe she could get on the news here?! LOL!!!

I've been thinking of your mom and friends...i pray they are safe and that your mom doesn't need to worry about her mink coat.

dentist...i'm not looking forward to going this december. i think i might have a cavity. yuck.

I also have been thinking about your mom being in the area around the fires. I'm glad to hear that she and her house are Ok so far

ok... you know I totally hate the dentist! OMG... I was getting sweaty just reading about the dentist right now! Ugh! hate them. All of them. Sure nice people I am sure.... sure... umm... ok, sure. Just stay away!

However... I think it is super that all THREE of your kids have NO cavities! That is one hell of an accomplishment.

Down south. Yeah. Nervous. I hope the fires stop. I can't imagine how scarey that is for so many people. Prayer in my heart for you Mom, and all those others that might be in harms way.

See ya soon!

I hope that your Mom and her few precious items that she might need are safe and sound. I am thinking about your family and friends.

Don't like the D word either. I got a lucky reprive this month. Couldn't get off work for the appt. Had to reschedule for next month. It will be an expensive visit. New crown, there's a hole in the filling. UGH.

Just know that I am thinking of you.
Mary
