So, what did YOU think?
I enjoyed this book a lot. I loved the characters...all but Isabelle (daughter of Sarah) who I felt was not fleshed out well enough and her actions were bizarre and slightly unrealistic and more importantly: unbelievable.
The challenge I have personally with mysteries is that I have researched in depth the art of mystery writing and have written two mystery books way back when so the red herrings pop out obviously at me which means I am seldom totally surprised by the endings and when I am...wow...I am thrilled. While I was able to more or less guess who the killer of poor Josh was in this book, I still enjoy watching it all unfold, as I did with this ending as well, and making sure all the loose ends are tied up nicely.
At times the book jumped around and didn't quite have a smooth texture to it that I appreciate in good books but the story was entertaining and the characters were really interesting.
Here are some questions to ponder:
1. Why do you think the judge sent his son, Oren, away after Josh went missing?
2. I don't remember if the book talked about why the sheriff held onto Josh's green backpack. Why do you think the sheriff did that?
3. Could Oren have done more to protect his brother?
