Here is a children's book, circa 1982:
THE ALLIGATOR AND HIS BIG PROBLEM
Zippy the alligator was the happiest alligator in the world. He had everything he ever wanted.
He had lots of friends. He had food to eat. He had a place to live.
One day Zippy went into the water to swim when he discovered he couldn't swim. He quickly got out of the water before the other alligators could see he couldn't swim and make fun of him.
As he was walking home he saw his friend Jigger, the hippopotamus.
"What's wrong Zippy?" Jigger asked.
"I can't swim."
"I'll teach you. I'm a great swimmer!" Jigger said.
The next day Zippy and Jigger went to a nearby lake where they could swim without other alligators looking on.
"The object is to stay afloat and don't forget to paddle your tail." Jigger said.
After months of practicing, Zippy finally learned how to swim thanks to Jigger.
Now Zippy's problem is all behind him. He is a great swimmer and now he swims with all his friends everyday.
THE END

Obviously I didn't know about creating suspense in a story...
