Didn't I tell you that as soon as the kids went back to school after the Christmas/Winter Holiday that it would be summer in a blink of an eye?
Blink.
We are almost to April. I think Harrison has counted the days and said there is something like fifty-something. I actually think there is a bit more since a) we don't get a "spring break" here...only a half day and two full days, one on Good Friday and one the day after Easter; b) there are only a few days off from here until the end of school; c) school doesn't let out until June 18th in these parts.
I have started to think about my Summer Adventures and started asking the kids what "weekly themes" they want to focus on this summer. We all missed it so much last year even though there was no possible way we could have done anything organized with two moves and an extra serving of stress.
Honestly, it is about now that I begin to look forward to summer vacation. Fun, crafts, reading goals, no homework, sleeping in, SUNSHINE, and hopefully moving back to Idaho.
As soon as I narrow down the weeks...we will get about ten...I will share our game plan. Because of the book I wrote, I don't have to search through countless craft books...all the ideas are right there.
I talked to another mom in our neighborhood and she said they spend the mornings of summer working on classwork, reading, etc. too so it will make it much easier to stay focused on our themes in the morning...the best time during the summer to get paperwork done, practice workbooks, and crafts...before the kids all start ringing our doorbell to play.
We plan to make a few trips: Gettysburg for sure. Maybe Vermont; maybe Washington DC; maybe Lancaster/Amish country. We'll see how the summer plays out.
In the meantime I have some organizing to do because summer is coming and will be here before you know it...
Sounds like a fun summer. I have always been impressed with what you do with your kids over the summer. I have never known anyone that does that! What great memeories you are giving them. Can't wait to see how it comes together.
Don't blink it is almost Christmas!
